Equinox is pleased to announce that Barbara Cormack has joined the team! Barbara will be a project manager overseeing implementations of Evergreen, Koha, and FulfILLment.
Barbara brings more than two decades of library experience. She started at the State University of New York Office of Library Systems installing automation services. She was so impressed by her librarian colleagues that she decided to pursue her MLS. After finishing her degree, she worked for two library software companies before landing at UC Berkeley where she managed electronic resources. Barbara says that she missed working with libraries to install and configure systems and products, and that is what brought her to Equinox.
This will be Barbara’s first experience implementing Open Source products and she says, “I will have the opportunity once again to work with libraries and librarians, but now learning and using open source rather than proprietary systems – this will be new terrain for me and I’m eager to see how it compares with my previous experiences.” She is also excited about working for a smaller company. “Equinox appeals to me because I want to work for an organization where I feel I can make contributions, make a difference, and not just be a cog in a larger wheel.”
Equinox Vice President Grace Dunbar remarked, “We knew from our first conversations with Barbara that her skill set would be a great asset to the company. As we’ve come to know her personally, we’ve realized she belongs here (with the geeky librarians).”
In her spare time, Barbara can be found performing Scottish Highland Dance at local Scottish games and events, making jewelry, and the prerequisite hobby of nearly every librarian–reading. Her favorite series include The Lord Of The Rings, A Song Of Ice And Fire, and The Lord Peter Wimsey mysteries.
